The Barn, Porthcothan Bay
The Barn, a former farm building dating in part from the late 18th century. The house and adjacent field benefit from lovely views across the valley, and to Porthcothan Bay beach and sand dunes.
The Main Rooms
The house has 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, sitting room and kitchen and more all on one level.
The front entrance to the property is through a porch providing space to dump shoes and coats. Once through the front door the hallway has an airing cupboard and coat cupboard.
Take a right turn and you enter the kitchen/diner. Plenty of storage and fully equipped, with utensils, bakeware, casseroles and dishes mugs, glasses, food storage and fridge freezer. The adjoining dining area seats 6 comfortably (though has seated larger parties adequately), and a breakfast bar with 2 stools.
The kitchen has a set of double doors opening onto the patio and garden with access to the private field.
Off the kitchen is a cosy sitting room with a log burner, a large sofa, a smaller 2 seater sofa bed and comfortable bean bag, Television, Sky box and DVD player. Bookcases house a range of local maps, guides and reference books.
Moving back through the kitchen and hall is the first of two bathrooms, this with a full size bath and shower, loo and basin.
The second bathroom is at this end of the Barn with a shower cubicle, loo and basin.
After the bathroom you move into the sleeping areas.
The Bedrooms
Bedroom 1 has a kingsize double bed, wardrobe and chest of drawers. With double doors leading from the bedroom to a small patio area which itself leads into the Barn’s own field.
Bedroom 2 offers twin beds, a wardrobe and wonderful views across the field to the valley.
Bedroom 3 is a single room, with a double bed and chest of drawers.
Bedroom 4 has a triple sleeper bunk bed – standard double with a single above. Perfect for children to camp out together. It has some childrens’ books, puzzles and games in addition to a television with Sky television.
There is also a small laundry cupboard houses the washing machine and tumble dryer.
Lastly there is another set of double doors leading onto the patio and garden beyond.
Outside
Outside at the front of the Barn there is parking for 3 or 4 cars. The parking area leads to a wood store and the garden wraps around the side of the house.
On the other side, the sea side there is a large natural slate patio with patio furniture, including a table and chairs for 6 , accessed from the kitchen patio doors or from the bedroom ‘wing’.
A 3 bar gate leads from the patio and garden area to the Barn’s own meadow. The meadow slopes down towards the beach and offers plenty of scope for exploring and kite-flying.
